Capture the moment!
Mary
Kumbier has been an active member of the Dexter community for more
than twenty years, where she has combined her life-long passions of
photography and working with people. Her
three sons have grown up here, attending Dexter schools and
participating in athletics, music, local clubs, Scouts, and other
community activities. Mary
was always involved, typically with camera in hand.
Whether it was a game, concert, special classroom activity,
field trip, award ceremony, graduation, or civic event, she was
there to capture the moment.
Through
the combination of community involvement and photography, it was a
natural fit for Mary to become a free-lance photographer for The
Dexter Leader. Since
1990, Mary has been photographing Dexter athletics, school
activities, and the community-at-large for the newspaper. There’s
a good chance you’ve seen her at the school, on the field, or
around town, in the midst of all the action.
Still
focused on the Dexter community, in 2004 Mary expanded her offering.
She sensed an interest from parents in capturing graduates in
relaxed, natural, outdoor settings and introduced her Senior
Personality Portfolios. Building
on her experience with youth and Dexter athletics, she also
introduced individual sports portfolios, including action-oriented
composites. In 2006,
Mary was selected by the Dexter Athletic Department to photograph
the high school teams, subsequently adding the Mill Creek teams, as
well.
The common
thread in all her work is the joy of connecting with people—Mary
enjoys building relationships with her customers as much as taking
their pictures. These
relationships enable her best work to come out, while making it fun
for all those involved. For Mary, making the personal connection and
the art of photography are inseparable.
